About Us:

The Kitchen Garden is a small scale Biodynamic vegetable farm located in Wilton, Ontario run by Evan Quigley since 2009. The farm is situated on 10 acres with wonderful biodiversity, deep sandy soils just 20 minutes by car from downtown Kingston. Our mission is to grow the best tasting, highest quality, nutrient dense, organic produce as possible!

We are obsessed with soil. Soil is living and dynamic. We’ve seen first hand that a healthy plant growing in a truly healthy soil will not be plagued by pests or disease. The more successful we are at building and balancing our soil the better the plant may nourish us. The benefits don’t end there. We have observed fewer weeds in our fields and much greater yields of higher quality produce. A small, well managed farm can be incredibly productive!

Darin and Deb Kelly, currently of Kingston, Ontario, began market gardening in 2006, eventually developing their first farm in the United States into a hydroponic greenhouse and field-grown tomato farm.  They began testing mushrooms and studying mushroom cultivation in 2014, adding that to their farm in the States.  In 2017, they sold their farm in Indiana to another grower, and returned to Ontario to focus full-time on mushroom cultivation.  Currently, their focus is on oyster, shiitake, lion’s mane, maitake, cordyceps, wine cap, reishi, and turkey tail production.  Formerly Kelly’s Gourmet Mushrooms, now they are doing business as The Fungi Connection.

Honey Wagon Farms is a small, friendly, farm-gate operation owned by Sandi and Ed Taylor. We cultivate approximately 10 acres of regular and specialty vegetables grown without the use of herbicides, fungicides or pesticides. Our selection of fresh produce covers a range from A to Z, beginning with the much anticipated spring asparagus and ending with the versatile zucchini. Our largest crops are potatoes, pumpkins and squash, of which we grow a number of varieties.

Each new season begins with the production of maple syrup. We adhere to traditional practices at Honey Wagon when tapping and processing. We hang 600 buckets, manually empty each one, boil on an open wood-fired evaporator and filter using the basic technique of gravity-feed through felt. Our syrup is sold in decorative gift bottles, some originating in Italy.

Our products are available on the plate at restaurants in the County and Kingston. They can also be purchased at our farm gate on Sandy Hook Road and at our seasonal stall at the engaging, producer-driven and community supported Memorial Market.

Roots Down Organic Farm is owned and operated by Jeff and Sue Klug, along with their two children Mara and Neville. 2012 will be our 7th year farming here and running our CSA. We are located north of Gananoque near Seeley’s Bay, Ontario, in the heart of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere. Here, five eco-regions merge, with the highest acre per acre biodiversity in all of Canada. Our fields were first cleared in the 1850’s and have been farmed ever since. In 1972, the farm was purchased by three families who over the years have planted more than 10,000 trees. Through their efforts, what was once one large cornfield has now become many small fields surrounded by forest, the perfect balance between farm and nature. Every season we are continually amazed by the number of different plants and animals who also call this land their home.

Healthy soil grows healthy food, it’s as simple as that. We strive to achieve this by using compost, cover crops and biologically based soil amendments. All weeds on our farm are manually removed, no herbicides are ever used. Insect pests are dealt with by manual removal, covering of crops with physical barriers, and by encouraging beneficial insects to feed on them. No genetically modified seeds or plants are ever used on our farm. We have been Certified Organic by Ecocert Canada since 2007.
